Parenting

Almost all of the chicks from our nest boxes have fledged (only three left!).

But it's not the end of parenting for Grey-breasted Parakeets.

Not yet.
Whole family usually sleep together in the nest, which must me kind of nice, but also have to feed chicks that are constantly begging for more.
With up to 9 chicks, those guys must be really busy...

*Agora quase todos os filhotes já voaram das caixas-ninho (somente três ainda estão muito pequenos para voar). Mas esse ainda não é o fim do cuidado parental. Toda a família ainda dorme junta nos ninhos e mesmo depois de terem aprendido a voar os filhotes ainda são alimentados pelos pais. Como cada casal tem até nove filhotes, eles devem estar bastante ocupados...

They grow up so fast

They grow up so fast... Remember those two little chicks from previous post? After less than two weeks they are already big enough to have rings.

*Eles crescem tão rápido... Lembra daqueles dois filhotinhos do post passado? Depois de menos que duas semanas eles já estão grandes o bastante para serem anilhados.

 

New chicks

One of our last year chicks is already having her own babies! Pyrrhura Parakeets usually start to breed in the age of 2, but exceptions happen sometimes. Like this one. She laid eggs as the last one this season, some had eggshell deformations, but in the end four chicks hatched. Well done!

* Os periquitos cara-suja normalmente se reproduzem a partir do segundo ano de vida, mas exceções acontecem. Uma fêmea que nasceu na caixa ninho ano passado já está se reproduzindo! Devido a inexperiência alguns ovos acabaram quebrando, mas quatro filhotes nasceram e estão crescendo!
